Livestrong™ Lance Armstrong Foundation

Unite and Fight - Livestrong Blog

Reporters yesterday got it a bit sideways and wrote that the LAF would take over the Astana payroll. Here’s what we told the Associated Press about that:

“Lance’s goal in returning to professional cycling is to raise awareness of the global cancer burden. The prospect of a world-class team joining the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Campaign and driving the broader cancer message is incredible. While as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Lance Armstrong Foundation would not be able to fund the day-to-day operational expenses of a for-profit endeavor, we would certainly look for ways to develop a dynamic partnership to support the cancer mission and cancer survivors.”

There will always be misunderstandings. Glad the LAF set it straight. Keep up the good work and focus on the fight against cancer!

  2. Lary Simpson says:

Truly an incredible idea and a logical “dynamic” partner would be NIKE. LAF should develop a proposal asap and get it in the hands of the appropriate NIKE folks. “Just Do It.”

  3. Raul Rios says:

Reporters are always in the way… huh?
But it was a great thing to quickly put these absurd comments to rest.

I’m TOTALLY behind the Nike/LAF “Just Do It” cycling team! That would be awesome. Not to mention it’d be nice to have another US based cycling team.

It completely makes sense to start a Team Nike-Twitter.

  6. LauraB says:

How about taking the LiveStrong Team public in partnership with the hundreds of thousands of folks committed to the LiveStrong cause? Sell shares to regular folks. Set up a separate for-profit company, but funnel the profits to LAF. How many people would love to have the chance to be a part-owner of the LiveStrong team? If Nike and Twitter want to be major shareholders, that’s ok, too!!!!!

  7. Susan B. says:

It would be great it Lance & Co. would support women’s cycling too. There is another very fast Armstrong out there and a whole lot of great women racers, who would be perfect vehicles to get the Livestrong message out.

  8. Celia says:

I would go back to buying more NIKE products if there was a LAF/NIKE “Just Do It” Cycling Team. How cool would that be?
