Livestrong™ Lance Armstrong Foundation

Unite and Fight - Livestrong Blog

It’s been a tough week here at the LAF. As we blogged about earlier this week we lost a good friend, a great person and former colleague in Allan Goldberg. And as we all find our own ways to cope with the loss, I found inspiration in a story that was forwarded on to me from an LAF Board Member.

The story is about a woman named Lindsay Payne. And next week Lindsay will be competing at the Olympic Trials in the 100-meter breaststroke and 200-meter breaststroke trying to win a spot to represent the U.S. in Beijing. Lindsay isn’t just a great swimmer, she is also a cancer survivor, having been diagnosed at age 12 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

As I read about her story I could not help but think about Allan and how proud he would have been of Lindsay. Allan spent his whole life as a living example of how not to let cancer get in the way of your hopes and dreams. And now here is Lindsay – giving us another example of what it means to LIVESTRONG.

So as this week comes to a close and we look forward to next week – here’s to celebrating the lives of two amazing cancer survivors.

Jeff

P.S. If you would like to follow Lindsay at the Olympic Trials – here is the link to the results page.

This is a great inspirational story. I think we also need to remember the volunteers who put in thousands of hours (unrewarded) to help fight cancer. Unfortunately there are to many to name!! Thanks

Read about Victoria Chidester who is on the front cover of USMS Swimmer magazine July/August 2008 issue http://www.usmsswimmer.com. She competed in May 2008 in Austin at the US Masters Swim Nationals. She is undergoing treatment for Stage IV Colon Cancer and is competing on a national level.

    Blessings,

Many survivors have taken on the inspiration to physically challenge their bodies in the throws of cancer.
I am truly inspired by Zachary DeRidder, an unsung survivor whose story is truly remarkable.
While undergoing active treatment for liver cancer he competed in triathalons in Rochester NY and surrounding areas.
As a survivor myself I am honored to have met him and call him a friend.
Check out his story and be inspired…

My friend Peter has the same kind of cancer that Lance had. He was diagnosed one month ago and is undergoing chemotherapy. Peter is unique in that he is a Special Olympics athlete. He is an avid sailor and sails with me through an organization called Sailability of greater tampa bay. We sail at the Clearwater Sailing Center each month. Please pray for my friend Peter.
