Greetings from the Windy City!

It was an energized day here in Chicago where two of our local Army Leaders: Melissa Wilhelm and Joe Schneider organized events to spread awareness, register voters and celebrate survivorship. Today exemplified the power of a local community united. For Melissa and Joe, their “Army” feels more like a family. And, while being a part of a cancer family may not seem like something you would welcome, I feel beyond blessed to have been a part of this family in action!

At the Thompson Center (the heart of downtown Chicago), Melissa Wilhelm organized a voter registration drive and the construction of a Unity Chain. Throughout the day, local residents stopped by to write personal messages of both remembrance and hope. Within hours, countless bands were linked, stretching at least 100 feet long.

In the evening, we all made our way to Rockit Bar to celebrate the day with hundreds of cancer survivors. Joe Schneider partnered with Imerman Angels and Gildas Club to gather survivors, care takers and supporters in a room overflowing with an energy of strength and support.

Thanks to the work of our local organizers, countless numbers were impacted by LIVESTRONG Day Chicago. I am so impressed and inspired and I cannot wait to get back to Austin to share the news-Chicago is building an Army!
