Having just returned from Pueblo, Colorado, I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you about my time at the Reverend Roger Patrick Dorcy Cancer Center…this Cancer Center is one of the Community Affiliate partners for the University of Colorado Cancer Center, which is a member of the LIVESTRONG Survivorship Center of Excellence Network.

LIVESTRONG Day 2007 delegate from North Dakota, Jim Miller, recently moved his family (wife Jenny and three children, Liam, Quinn, and Nadia) to San Antonio, TX. But that didn’t stop them from fully participating in LIVESTRONG Day 2008! The Millers started out with 120 LIVESTRONG cookies and stopped at five cancer centers, starting in San Antonio and finishing in Marble Falls. I can tell you that they made a lot of patients smile and the kids had fun spending the day volunteering with Mom and Dad.

It was an energized day here in Chicago where two of our local Army Leaders: Melissa Wilhelm and Joe Schneider organized events to spread awareness, register voters and celebrate survivorship. Today exemplified the power of a local community united. For Melissa and Joe, their “Army” feels more like a family. And, while being a part of a cancer family may not seem like something you would welcome, I feel beyond blessed to have been a part of this family in action!
