Stop #2 for our LIVESTRONG Day lineup was awesome. We talked to a huge crowd of students at Ohio State University who gave us a great welcome. They had a cool LIVESTRONG Day event put together and we were so grateful for their hospitality and enthusiasm.
When we came up with the idea of flying cross country and visiting events all over America, Ohio was one of the first spots we decided had to be on the schedule. We have a LIVESTRONG Survivorship Center here, at the James Cancer Center, which is a great facility.

We’re here in Boulder, CO at the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center. LIVESTRONG Challenge mentor Michael Birdsong volunteers here regularly, bringing snacks and establishing the Chemo Rocks program (supplying iPods to patients while they go through chemotherapy infusion). This center truly cares for the entire patient, and the Lance Armstrong Foundation resources are a key part of this caring process!
I just attended the LIVESTRONG Day- Howard County event organized by the Ulman Fund for Young Adults. The event took place in Columbia, MD on Columbia’s Lake front. County Executive Ken Ulman read a proclamation naming May 13th as LIVESTRONG Day in the County and folks listed to live music while enjoying lunch outside by the water.
I met an amazing woman named Allison Ward who spoke at the event. Allison is a cancer survivor. She was first diagnosed at age 19 and is now facing her 3rd occurrence at age 36. LIVESTRONG means information, resources and networking to…
We are at Jack’s school in Cedar Rapids and everyone is wearing yellow! The 1st grade class sang for us and right now we are in the lunch room talking about what LIVESTRONG means. The hallways are covered with LIVESTRONG posters the kids made. One says, “I live strong when I grow up and find a cure for cancer.” Next we are headed out to recess to pass out wristbands. After school there will be a walk to honor Jack and the other people the students know living with cancer.

Since Montessori education focuses a lot on how to be a good citizen, we talked about how we can help people that are sick feel better. I told a story about a boy named Mikey that was sick and how his mom helped him feel better by bringing him soup and his…
