Stop #2 for our LIVESTRONG Day lineup was awesome. We talked to a huge crowd of students at Ohio State University who gave us a great welcome. They had a cool LIVESTRONG Day event put together and we were so grateful for their hospitality and enthusiasm.
When we came up with the idea of flying cross country and visiting events all over America, Ohio was one of the first spots we decided had to be on the schedule. We have a LIVESTRONG Survivorship Center here, at the James Cancer Center, which is a great facility.
And in the upcoming Presidential election, we know that Ohio figures prominently as a swing state, so we need to make a difference here. We’re doing our best to make sure Ohio voters are aware of the #1 killer of Americans under 85 and that they are informed about the candidates’ plans to combat it. To that end, we’re going to be back here in July for the LIVESTRONG Summit on the campus of Ohio State University. I’m looking forward to it already. Sen. McCain has committed to attend and we’ve invited Senators Clinton and Obama. The Summit will give them a chance to connect with Ohio voters on healthcare and cancer and it will give Ohio voters an opportunity to ask their next President how they intend to renew the fight against cancer.
I’m pumped for Denver. Somebody mentioned it was snowing there. Maybe I should have packed a coat.

Thanks so much for signing the picture “Courage”. It is a moment I will never forget, and hopefully I’ll be able to find a picture of the moment somewhere.

A beautiful day….
Lance,
Thank you so much for coming to OSU Medical Center and being such an inspiration to so many. As an OSU hospital employee and recent cancer survivor, I felt I was not alone for the first time. I worked in The James Cancer Hospital for 10 years, lost my father at 33 to cancer, and stood teary eyed yet very peaceful knowing your energy and enthusiasm excite so many. May God hold you in the palm of His hand. I look forward to seeing you upon your return to Buckeye country. Respectfully,
Terese
Thanks for stopping in Columbus, Lance! It was great to have you here. I was on your team during the 2007 NYC Marathon – it was great to see you in person again. LiveStrong! Norm
Lance,
Thanks to you and the LIVESTRONG team for making an appearance here today. I’m a second year graduate student here at OSU studying breast cancer genetics, and I just wanted to say that it’s really gratifying to know you guys are out there raising awareness to how bleak the funding and political situation is in our field. My lab, fortunately, is well funded, but some of my friends aren’t so lucky, which forces them to spend time TAing instead of working in the lab. Hopefully, thanks to LIVESTRONG’s work, the new administration will bring with them renewed emphasis on fostering scientific research and bringing about wonderful breakthroughs. Until then, keep up the good work, and if you need help with future Columbus events, don’t hesitate to contact me.
Dave
