If You Don’t Fight Cancer, You Don’t Know Jack
Hey Guys! I am writing today to share the story of Jack Hoeger with you. Jack is an amazing eight year old cancer survivor that I’ve had the privilege of getting to know through the LAF. Jack lives in Iowa, and his parents, Jen and Marty, are very special people that have dedicated their lives to raising awareness about cancer.
Jen attended LIVESTRONG Day 2007 in Washington, D.C., and met with her Iowa representatives to ask them to increase funding for cancer research. Marty rode as a member of TEAM LIVESTRONG in The Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) with Lance to raise awareness about cancer. They have started the LIVESTRONG Army Cedar Rapids to get others in their own community involved in making cancer a national priority.
Local LIVESTRONG Armies are a way to get your friends, family, and community involved in raising awareness and fighting cancer. We challenged our Army leaders to make a cancer commercial that asks our nation’s leaders what they plan to do in the fight against cancer. In the video, Jack asks, “What will you do to fight cancer?” Interested in getting involved? Click here.
Please take a second to watch this heartfelt video and call to action about Jack’s triumph over cancer. He has really beat the odds, and serves as an inspiration to us all! “If you don’t’ fight cancer, you don’t know Jack,” says Jack.

We’re praying for you Jack. In February my husband finished up his chemo treatments after his second bout with cancer so we have some idea of the struggles your family is facing. We’ve kept a blog of our trip through cancer and although we hoped it was over, another spot was found in my husband’s lung last month. In May he’ll have another scan and get a diagnosis so we wait. Cancer changes everything, but the compassion it brings people is priceless. You can find our blog at http://TeamZieser.blogspot.com, where we will also link to your story. Keep fighting…we’re on your team!

Thank you for covering the story of Jack Hoeger. So many people are effected by cancer, for years we all sat back and suffered quitely, not realizing the power of uniting together to fight and advocate for help in conquering it. I was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer 27 years ago when I was 13. We have come a long way since then, but not far enough. The Hoeger family, especially Jack, have reminded me why it is so important to keep fighting.

I cannot think of a more inspiring video. Jack shows true strength and courage.
The video is already at 17,851 views. Jack and parents are doing a great job of raising awareness by sharing his story.
LIVESTRONG Jack, LIVESTRONG!

My heart goes out to Jack and all of his family as they fight this cancer together. Cancer affects TOO many people; I was diagnosed with breast cancer last summer, 2 months before my daughter’s wedding. It was a reminder of how our lives can change in the blink of an eye. I have finished chemo and am 1/4 of the way through radiation treatments. Watching Jack’s video brought tears to my eyes. Seeing such a young child undergo such a struggle makes me more determined than ever to do my part in helping raise $ so that more research can be done and a cure can be found. I’m praying for you, Jack. You are a strong and courageous young man.

I am Jason’s Mom–the guy in the video who died in Feb 08 at age 36. I am so proud to have been his mom–he was my inspiration. Jason loved Jack. He would be so proud of Jack and I am sure he is praying and watching out for Jack still. Jason’s wife Gina and Jen (Jack’s Mom) have been friends forever. They have been there for each other the whole journey. I pray for you Jack and Jack’s family and will help with whatever you need. Keep up the battle Jack.

[…] The final day of the Summit was an incredibly moving experience. I would have to say the one part that touched me more than anything this weekend was when Jen Hoeger, who was a track leader for Advocacy Grey, took the stage. The entire crowd started chanting “I KNOW JACK! I KNOW JACK!”. It was simple amazing. i would be willing to bet there wasn’t a dry eye in the entire audience. If you too would like to know jack, check out our post from April. […]
