LIVESTRONG Day
Hey everybody – My name is Brendan and I’m the Grassroots Advocacy Manager here at the LAF. Right now it seems like grassroots has become a buzzword, everybody keeps talking about it, but so often I feel like nobody really understands what it means. Grassroots is about getting everybody involved in the process; grassroots is about change from the bottom up, not the top down.
Grassroots is exactly what LIVESTRONG Day is supposed to be about. This year the foundation decided that we need to stray from the normal formula of sending a bunch of people to Washington DC to make change, we need to do it in the local community. So we’re blowing it up this year, we want 500 events spread out all over this country.
People ask me all the time what a LIVESTRONG Day event is and my answer is that it’s whatever you want it to be. It can be a big-huge rally on Capitol Hill with speakers… or it can be your company wearing yellow. From bake sales to bike rides, it’s meant to be a day in which you show us what it means to make cancer a priority in your community.
It shouldn’t be something that feels daunting, we have a ton of ideas and will provide you with the resources to make this easy for you.
Sound like fun? Go to www.LIVESTRONG.org/LIVESTRONGday to register your event and get started.
