Hey everyone, my name is Allison Wright and I work with the LIVESTRONG Challenge team here at the Foundation.
In an earlier blog, Doug referenced a young man by the name of Jimmy Fowkes who was waiting to hear back about a possible cancer recurrence. We recently received word that Jimmy’s cancer has indeed returned and he’s now facing chemo for 4-5 months, with the last 4-6 weeks being a stem cell rescue where he’ll be hospitalized for 28-42 days.
To give you an idea of the type of young man Jimmy is, read the story…
Wisconsin is taking a leadership role in the fight to reduce the health consequences of smoking and tobacco use. Current Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle supports a comprehensive tobacco cessation plan for the state. Governor Doyle would increase the tax on cigarettes to fund a tobacco prevention and control program, a program that is drastically underfunded at this time. He also supports legislative efforts to make Wisconsin a smoke free state, but time is running out at the state capitol.

Grassroots is about getting everybody involved in the process; grassroots is about change from the bottom up, not the top down.
Grassroots is exactly what LIVESTRONG Day is supposed to be about. This year the foundation decided that we need to stray from the normal formula of sending a bunch of people to Washington DC to…

I was one of the sign-holding people in the crowd at UT, surrounded by my fellow LIVESTRONG Army volunteers. I usually see these events from the spin room or backstage. This was my first time in the crowd and I totally loved it.
Everyone else’s signs were for Clinton or Obama and there we were – a group of yellow-wearin’ die hards with signs like “Show Me the Money (for Cancer)!!!”. It was awesome. It was especially cool…
