A colleague sent me a link to the following piece from NPR on Monday. Pretty interesting given all of the cancer survivors and personal stories that are directly involved in the presidential election this year.
Check out the story here.
Also, I saw the trailer for Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman’s new movie, “The Bucket List.” While I am not sure when I will actually have time to see this movie it did strike me as intriguing. Both main characters have cancer and they decide to tackle some of their “must do√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s” before they die. They live each…

The last few days have been a much needed respite for many of us from the non-stop presidential politicking. It has been so intense and in some areas it continues but for most, including myself, it was nice to catch my breath. I spent several days last week meeting with our incredible partners from Nike. Every year the group at Nike that works most closely with the LAF comes to Austin for an off-site to plan their strategy for the coming year. Obviously an iconic brand, Nike represents so much more to everyone at the LAF. We were a…
It’s time to hit the road once again√¢‚Ǩ¬¶ you’ll recall the last time it was to visit our great troops serving overseas as I accompanied Miss USA, Kid Rock, Lewis Black and Robin Williams on an amazing pre-Christmas tour. This time I’m heading out with a few more close friends, namely the entire staff of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, to New Orleans for a couple of very worthy causes.
First off it’s a bitter-sweet trip for me as, after two tours on the President’s Cancer Panel, I’ll be attending my last meeting on January 28th in New Orleans. I’ve…

What is LAF doing about it?
The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) and the Education in Palliative and End-of-Life Care (EPEC) Project are partnering to improve the relationship between cancer survivors and healthcare providers. The LAF supports the EPEC-Oncology workshop that gives cancer care professionals the necessary knowledge and skills to manage patient symptoms, communicate effectively with patients and discuss cancer clinical trials. This workshop is offered annually at the EPEC conference produced through…

People and Politics
Often times we get caught up in policy work and the presidential elections but we never lose sight of the most important piece of the cancer battle √¢‚Ǩ‚Äú the people who are fighting like crazy for their own lives. I just received the note below from a good friend of mine. Beverly Laird is an awesome human being. I mean awesome. She is a Ph.D., multiple time cancer survivor and super advocate. She has worked with almost of the cancer organizations you can think of as a passionate volunteer. She serves as vice-chair of the NCI…
