What a Sad State

January 24th, 2008 by Doug Ulman

I was reading this last night on an airplane flying back in to Austin after midnight. Needless to say I was tired, better yet exhausted, and this article kept my interest. What a sad state of affairs. As long as the incentives are misaligned in the traditional research community this will not change. That said, we can change this situation. The vibrant community of survivors, loved ones, and family members can come together and demand better. Check out the article below. If you are as outraged as I am let’s work to fix the problem. Most of us are taught early in life to share – why would that not apply in this arena.

May open science enjoy the same success as open source software. How can we best help?

I totally agree… What a sad state of affairs! We can shoot a guy with a missile from 25,000 miles away with a two million dollar weapon but can’t come together to finish cancer once and for all. I figure that all cancer research should be public domain or ‘open source’ as Scott said. We all need to fight this together!
