I wanted to share with you all a story that was emailed to me the other day. The story is about a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, Randy Pausch, who is battling cancer. On Tuesday afternoon he delivered his last lecture to his students, faculty and friends.
It is a moving story and I would encourage you all to read it or you can also see the whole thing on YouTube.

Last night I had the pleasure of being a part of an amazing event at Sotheby’s in New York City.
LAF board member Harold Freeman and Ralph Lauren were honored for their work with the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Research and Prevention in Harlem. Although it was my birthday I could think of no place I would have rather been. Dr. Freeman has been serving this community for over 40 years and I am proud to call him my colleague, call him my friend and call him my brother.

Last night former President Clinton was in town hosting a fundraiser for his wife. After his duties for the day we had a chance to sit down and have dinner and talk about the world, what both of us are trying to accomplish and so much more.
Although I have not read his new book, after listening to him talk about it last night I am going to make sure I pick it up and would recommend you all do the same. Whether you loved him or hated him as President, you can not doubt the impact that he has had…
We’ve got a big week ahead of us in Austin. We have over 122 community based cancer organization in town for our annual Community Program conference. The conference brings together our current and past grantees and allows them to network, share best practices and create relationships to help them further their work.
Tomorrow, I will also be speaking at the opening of our newest LIVESTRONG Survivorship Center at the Dell Childrens Hospital in Austin, TX. Being that this is our home – both the foundation and myself – I could not be happier that we were able to establish a center here.
And then…
Yesterday I had the opportunity to speak at an event in Houston to support Prop 15, a Texas ballot initiative that would deliver $3 billion dollars in funding to stimulate cancer research at the state level. As we all know federal funding for cancer research has gone down over the last couple of years, and state level support like this will go a long way in helping to fill that void.
The event was held at Rice University, where 45 years ago this week President John F. Kennedy stood and delivered his “man on the moon” speech.
