The purpose of my blog today is to congratulate a very special man, Dr. Harold Freeman.
The LAF was incredibly fortunate to have Dr. Freeman join our board of directors in 2006. Although I have known Dr. Freeman for a while, I have had the pleasure of getting to know him more over the last year. Tomorrow he will celebrate 40 years of service to the cancer community in Harlem. His work and dedication have truly changed the course of cancer care.
Dr. Freeman, my brother, it’s leaders and visionaries like you that inspire us all as we fight this battle against…
Hey everyone. I’ve been enjoying a little summer vacation with my kids and have been busy with sponsor and Foundation work. Since I had a few minutes today, I wanted to throw up a couple of links.
First is a story about a guy named Tony Griffin.Tony is a professional athlete in Ireland. He plays a sport called hurling, which if you have not seen you should check it out (it is one of the sickest sports I have seen). Tony’s dad passed away in 2005 from lung cancer, and Tony has taken a year off to train for and complete…
Awhile back I wrote about how my cycling team, Discovery Channel, is uniting with the LAF in the fight against cancer.
Well, the boys have had a great start to the season – 18 victories and over $11,000 raised through the Discovery Channel Challenge. The fans have been enthusiastic in supporting our riders and proving every penny really does count.
It’s almost July and the Team is looking good for the Tour. Remember, for every $15,000 Discovery raises, a cancer survivor will be sent to Austin to join me at the 2007 Ride for the Roses Weekend. If you haven’t checked it…
The Allman Brothers Band has a song titled “Where it all Begins” and today in the State of Texas those words could not be more true.
Today, Governor Rick Perry signed House Bill 14 (HB14), which establishes the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas, at the UT-Southwestern Cancer Center in Dallas and at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. With the signing of this bill the decision will now be turned over to the people of Texas, on November 6th, to approve the three billion dollars in funding for cancer research and prevention.
It has been amazing to see what is…
We had another public reminder of the toll that cancer is taking on our country last night. Senator Craig Thomas (R – Wyoming) passed away from leukemia at the age of 74.
I had the chance to meet Senator Thomas and his wife Susan last year at LIVESTRONG Day.The thing that impressed me about Senator Thomas is the fact that he always made time for the LAF and our advocates. Due to scheduling our advocates often meet with senior level staffers when we are there, but Senator Thomas always found time to meet with his constituents face-to-face.
My thoughts are with Susan and their…
