Today is one of the proudest days of my life. To be a Texan today means to live in a state that has decided to make the fight against cancer a priority.
As I have visited the State Capitol during the weeks working on this legislation, I have often looked at the pictures of the founding fathers of Texas that hang on the walls. As I look at them I think of how proud they would be to see what we are doing. Throughout history, Texas has always been about big ideas and bold initiatives. And this initiative sets a course…
I spent the morning (and part of the afternoon) in the Texas Senate waiting to see the outcome of the vote to fund and establish the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.
Both bills passed the Senate, but the funding vote was amended. That means that it must go back to the House for a vote. The vote in the House will hopefully happen this week.
We will keep you updated.
LIVESTRONG,
Lance
Over the last month, you have heard me talking about the legislation in Texas to establish the Texas Cancer Prevention Research Institute. We have come a long way and there is just one obstacle in our way – a vote by the full Texas Senate. The vote will happen this week (probably Tuesday or Wednesday) and I need your help.
If you are from Texas please write your Senator and tell them to support this legislation. If you know someone in Texas email them or call them and ask them to support this legislation by writing their Senator.
Below is an action…
I wish I could say thank you to everyone who participated in LIVESTRONG Day. I’ll say it again – it was a success. Since it would be impossible to thank all of you individually, here is my best attempt.
LIVESTRONG,
Lance
I wanted to share with everyone my remarks from LIVESTRONG Day.
Thank you to the thousands of people who participated in the day. We are making progress, but we must continue to fight everyday.
A special thank you to Senator Tom Harkin, Senator Olympia Snowe, Representative Jan Schakowsky and Representative Sue Myrick for their support in sponsoring our legislation, The Cancer Screening, Treatment, and Survivorship Act of 2007.
LIVESTRONG,
Lance
