So Much to Say

April 12th, 2007 by Lance Armstrong

Sorry for not getting more posts up this week. It has been a busy week.

We should take a second to reflect on what happened last week. I had my manager Mark take a picture of me with the Newsweek cover, because we need to celebrate this success. The cancer discussion finding it’s way on to the cover of Newsweek is a huge win in our fight.

I also wanted to share with you an email that Doug Ulman (President of the LAF) sent to me and a few others last week.

“You ever have one of those moments when you just feel like people are paying attention to something that is so very important to you. That’s what happened when I walked through the airport in Baltimore and stopped suddenly as I saw the cover of Newsweek practically jumping off the newsstand. With further examination I also realized that Time and US News and World Report had cancer related stories on their cover. That has to be a first. Shocking I know. The number 1 killer of people in this country under the age of 85 and it has never received attention like it is getting now.

We need to keep it on the covers and front pages of our papers. Let’s continue to hold leaders accountable. This is just the beginning and we have people like Elizabeth Edwards and Tony Snow to thank for their courage and willingness to talk to the public about their personal experiences.”

We also learned yesterday that Former Senator Fred Thompson has lymphoma. I commend him for coming forward and talking so openly about his condition. Along with Tony Snow and Elizabeth Edwards, Fred Thompson has again shown us that you can not let cancer control your life.

We have learned over the past couple of weeks that cancer does not see political affiliations, race, gender or religion. Through unity we can find strength and fight to make solving this problem a national priority.

LIVESTRONG,
Lance
