World Cancer Day

February 2nd, 2007 by Lance Armstrong

I’ve been talking a lot recently about the fight against cancer in the US and all the work that we need to do on that front. At the same time it is important to remember that this is truly a global battle. More than 7 million people worldwide will die from cancer this year - which is equivalent to 1 in every 8 deaths. While the LAF and I continue to stoke the flames here at home we are also proud to be a part of the global community through our membership in the International Union Against Cancer (UICC).

On February 4, 2007 the UICC will host its second annual World Cancer Day with events around the globe. The theme for this year’s World Cancer Day is “Today’s Children, Tomorrow’s World” which will focus on a message of prevention geared at parents, health practitioners and policy makers. The goal is to reduce the cancer risk amongst children.
